Katy came to Gonzaga from Newberg, Ore., because her hero went to Gonzaga. “My high school cross country coach has a contagious love for Gonzaga,” Katy said. “Plus, the first time I set foot on campus, I knew I was meant to be here. Not just by the students and professors that I met, but also by the campus itself. Gonzaga is such a beautiful, yet comfortable place.”

For Katy, the Jesuit pillars of mind, body and spirit played an important role, as well. She knew that Gonzaga was known for “educating the whole person” and as she looks back on her time as an undergraduate student, she begins to realize how much she has learned and how much see has grown in these three areas. “As a biology major, I have learned about the world around me and what makes me what I am,” she said. “As a Gonzaga student, I have learned what it means to be a leader and a just person.”

After she graduates from Gonzaga in May 2012, Katy plans to work in the “real world” for a few years, and then pursue graduate studies in Cell and Molecular Biology.
